![]() ![]() If you don't like being tied down to specific apple only hardware (say you want an android phone next year or a PC/Windows laptop etc) then OneNote would be something to consider since once you start taking digital notes on iPad before you know it you have hundreds of notes and switching over all your notes would be a lot messier. IMO - if you are purely inside the Apple ecosystem and just want to handwrite ONLY, Goodnotes5 is a great option. That being said its also has some cons, it feels very 'beta-like' and a bit buggy at times, no back-up syncing. It's also got a ton of features like presentation, laser pointer, vertical/horizontal scrolling, custom templates/themes, better import/export PDF, Mac-like folders and IMO its the best organisation compared to EVERY note-taking app. Goodnotes 5 feels like a nicer app to hand write on, but its MUCH worse to type on. (Great for collaboration work, wireless mirroring to displays for presentations etc). OneNote's best features outright are three main things: They are all amazing apps and I'd have no trouble sticking with any of them. I've used Notability, OneNote & Goodnotes 5 for quite some time. Thank you for reporting spam and other rule-breaking content. If you have any suggestions regarding subreddit or community improvements, you can message the moderators at any time. Self-Promotion is prohibited unless posted and presented as self-promotion, and only in the General Discussion Thread. I used goodnotes and notability for a while and I think notability is better for taking class notes because it has voice recording features and goodnotes is better for taking textbook notes because it has better navigation by outline features.Out-of-topic content or content that isn't directly related to iPads will be removed.Any request to remove MDM or otherwise break into devices will be removed.Jailbreaking talk goes in /r/jailbreak, sideloading talk goes to /r/sideloaded.Posts soliciting the purchase, sale or donation of iPads, Apple Store credits, or UDID registrations are better suited to Craigslist or other sites."Title-only" posts aren't allowed either. Simple photos of an iPad don't deserve their own post unless they showcase a third-party accessory, same goes for simple yes or no questions. We expect links and self-posts to foster discussion, and to have substance."What Should I Buy", simple TechSupport questions and Apps requests will only be allowed in the What Should I Buy and Discussion & Tech-Support threads, respectively.A moderator will have the final say on whether or not a post is low quality/effort or not. We feel like you know what low-quality/effort posts are. No low-quality/effort posts (iPad in a box, memes, meta.).Do not discriminate, abuse, or otherwise disrespect other members, groups, or minorities. Pictures, discussion, rumors, news, iOS, hardware, and more about the company out of Cupertino.Īsk any questions you may have in the Discussion & Tech-Support thread, in the What Should I Buy thread, on AppleHelp, or on Discord. I haven't had a chance to try it out, but GoodNotes 5 has support for tablets and ink to text conversion. For all things iPad & iPad Pro. Apple also released PencilKit, but it both only works for Apple pencil, but also is only read-only on macOS (so there wouldn't be a feasible way to force it to work with a graphics tablet.) I was hoping that the "scribble" feature that came on iOS would also work with graphics tablets, but alas more than 2 year later it hasn't happened. Unfortunately (although, to be honest, it wasn't very good) Inkwell on OS X was not updated to 64-bit and was removed from macOS Catalina onwards. I've been looking for something like this for a while, and I am honestly surprised that it seems to be such an uncommon use case - even though on the windows side a very considerable portion of laptops are can fold into a tablet mode and have pen support. (I was hoping someone else would answer this with a suggestion that they have actually tested, but alas,) TL:DR : GoodNotes 5 should support this workflow, but I haven't tested it
